Improving Your Wifi Performance

Improving Your Wifi Performance

Overview

While you are on Willamette's campus your Wifi performance will be primarily improved by moving to BlitzNet 5Ghz and plugging into your dorm's wired ethernet access point. All dorm's have small wall boxes with ports to plug into ethernet → Computer.

When possible use 5GHz rather than 2.4GHz frequency WiFi (At Home / On Campus)

Many other devices use the 2.4GHz frequency and can cause issues. Make sure to try connecting to BlitzNet 5G!

If your modem is pretty far away from where you work, move closer to it.

Buy a WiFi Range Extender (At Home)

Position the Range Extender at the halfway point between the router and the area you want to cover.

Avoid obstacles such as concrete walls, metal objects, and microwaves.

Plug in to your Modem / Dorm's ethernet port with a cable whenever possible (At Home / On Campus)

All Dorms have small wall boxes for ethernet connection.

Wired is always better than wireless.

Close browser tabs that are not in use and turn off streaming music or video services while attending class.

Restart your Modem / Router (At Home)

Use your provider's phone app or manually restart your Modem / Router
