Transferring Your Willamette Email / Drive to Your Personal Gmail Account

When it comes time for your Willamette email account to expire (1-year after graduation for students), you may wish to transfer your email and Drive content to another Gmail account.

This guide outlines how to migrate Google Mail and Drive contents to a personal Google account. Before you start, ​​make sure that your current, personal, Google Account can accommodate the amount of data you plan to migrate. Take the time to clean out your Drive, and delete any files you don’t want transferred.

1) Log into your Willamette email account.

2) Click your Avatar or initials on the upper right of the Screen.

 

3) Select "Start Transfer" from the box titled "Transfer Your Content". 

4)   You will be redirected to a page that will walk you through transferring your content.

5) To start the transfer, enter your destination email address and click “Send Code”.

6) Check your personal email addresses inbox for an email titled "Verify your account". Note: you will have 24 hours to verify your account before the confirmation code expires.

7) Click "Get confirmation code". You will be redirected to a website with a unique code. Copy the code and navigate back to the "Transfer Your Content" page. 

8) Paste your confirmation code and click "Verify"

9) Once you have successfully verified your account you are transferring data to, you will be able to select your Drive and/or Gmail. This will transfer everything from your Drive, Shared with Me Folder, and Inbox to your personal Gmail account. Note: if your Willamette Storage exceeds the available storage in your personal account your transfer will fail.

 

10) Once you click “Start Transfer” you will be prompted to type in your Willamette password. If this fails, please check to make sure your Willamette email address is listed correctly / your browser did not default to your personal email address.

11) You will get an email in your personal Inbox letting you know that your transfer has started. You will start to see emails from your Willamette in your personal inbox.

Any message that has been transferred will show the account it came from/the date it was added to your Willamette Inbox.

 

12) For content added to your personal Google Drive, you will see everything in a folder with your Willamette accounts name / the date and time of the transfer.
